Harradine in Egypt (Again)

Construction began recently for two 18 hole EMAAR golf courses, Uptown Cairo and Marassi in Alexandria.

Both courses are being built to enhance real estate projects. The similarity however ends there as both courses are as different as chalk and cheese.

The Uptown Cairo course is quite unique as it meanders through dry wadis forged amongst some incredible rock formations on a most unusual site overlooking the citadel. The design has fully exploited the important and natural contours as most tees are perched on natural elevations which give an extraordinary view of the entire hole. This 7,108 yard par 71 will require judicious placement of the ball in order to ensure a par! Holes 14 and 15 are presently being built as a priority in order to frame the access road to the site. Definitely a great and unique course that will create an incredible and unforgettable experience and memory!

The environment at Marassi is completely different to Uptown Cairo as the course is near the sea and most of the original ground reserved for the layout was just above sea level. Important earth movements were required to raise the complete level allowing us to create mounds, hollows and interesting features. The excavation of many canals, lakes and lagoons have added great character to this 7,448 yards par 72 and most golfers will appreciate the water features and sea-side feeling. Construction is in progress at the driving range putting and pitching greens. Marassi will definitely be more forgiving to play whereas Uptown Cairo will demand more precision. Two completely different types of courses!

Both courses benefit from excellent practice facilities which include good driving ranges with putting and pitching greens.
