Adrian Flaherty addressed the gathering with the General Manager of JA Golf Resort, Frederick, proposing the vote of thanks. Mohammed Buamain, vice-chairman of golfindubai, and Zeyad Baker, General Manager of Dutco, gave away the prizes to the players.

Cabrera-Bello is the defending champion of the Dubai Desert Classic and will create history if he repeats his victory on Sunday. Till date no player has won back to back titles. South African Ernie Els has won the title thrice while Tiger Woods has won it twice.

Westwood has finished runners-up three times while O’Meara became the oldest winner when the won the claret in 2004 at the age of 47. World No.1 Rory McIlroy is the youngest winner at 19 with his victory in 2009. Meanwhile, after three runner-up finishes Lee Westwood wants to go one better this time as he prepares for the Dubai Desert Classic.

“This is one title I would certainly like to win,” the Englishman told media at the Emirates Golf Club, which is hosting the Classic this week. I have been here (Dubai) every year since 1994.

“So hopefully this week I’ll play as well as I’ve played the last few years and have that chance again and hope to finish it off. I feel like I’ve got a chance come Sunday,” added the Englishman.

Westwood shared the second place with Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher with Rafael Cabrera-Bello winning the Claret last year.
